How Motherhood Defines Me

Time has been flying by recently, so I took a moment to really think about who I am at this point in my life. I am just a regular person like everyone else. I am not perfect and never will be. I have experienced the ups and downs of life. I have had happy and sad moments and all of the in-between. All of this has shaped me into the person I am today. This is what makes my life and all of your lives beautiful. Now that I am a Mother, I will be able to use everything that has happened in my life…everything that has made me who I am…for the best purpose my life has held yet. This is how Motherhood defines me:

A Strong Foundation

I believe that the most important task a Mother has is building her children a rock solid foundation to grow upon from the moment they are born. This is so crucial, because it is the compass they use to guide them their entire lives. It is how they make decisions every single day. I was raised to have very strong morals and values, and I plan to pass that onto my daughter. This can mean simply teaching her right and wrong, how to be kind, and how to grow up to be a strong woman who inspires others. For my husband and I, this especially means making sure that Lana knows God should be the most important person in her life. As long as she has God to guide her, she shouldn’t go too far off the right path. Helping her get to know God is the greatest gift of love we can ever give to her as parents. As Mothers, we all have such a great responsibility in our hands, and how we use it defines us. It is truly an honor to be a Mother.

Roles of Motherhood

Saying that Motherhood defines me may seem limiting at first, but it is the opposite! As a Mother, you don’t just have one job but a number of them. You are a teacher, a nurturer, a play companion, a disciplinarian, a cook, and so much more. Suddenly someone needs you for everything. They literally need you to survive! If you don’t know how to do a job, you learn how to do it and fast. For all of you stay-at-home Mothers out there, you deserve a lot of credit for everything you do on a daily basis. For all of you work Mothers, kudos go out to you for being able to balance the full time job of Motherhood and another job or more at the same time. So much of who we are goes into being a Mother.

You Are Their Hero

Your children are going to have moments when they are scared or don’t know what to do. These are the moments you think back to all of the times in your life when you were afraid, or you think about any of the crazy experiences you had. There are still so many things that I am unsure of and would not normally do, but I push myself out of my comfort zone. If I’m not brave and don’t try to be the best version of myself, how can I tell my daughter to be? You are their ultimate role model.

All of our actions every day carry such great importance. This is how motherhood defines me. It is the most terrifying, exhausting, exciting, and rewarding journey I have the pleasure to be a part of in this crazy life, along with my marriage to my wonderful husband. Without our marriage, the foundation where this all began, our Lana Rose would not exist. As Leo says in The Vow: “I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love.” This is why I love movies. Sometimes they have just the right words. 🙂

I will end this post with a very meaningful video for your Friday:

LOVE this!! I definitely can relate to all of these. Motherhood is perfect and challenging and so, so sweet. The greatest thing I can do for my son is to teach him that JESUS loves him so much more than mommy and daddy ever will. Beautiful post, mama!
